City of New London
Planning and Zoning Commission

Public Notice Registry

In accordance with the provisions of Public Act No. 06-08, the City of New London’s Planning and Zoning Commission have established a “public notice registry” which will be used to inform interested property owners, electors, and non-profit organizations of certain applications initiated by the Commission.

Individuals and organizations who ask to be placed on the registry will be notified by either electronic mail (email) or (if specifically requested) regular (postal) mail of the commencement of public hearings on Planning and Zoning Commission-initiated amendments to the City’s Zoning Regulations, changes to the City’s Zoning Map, amendments to the City’s Subdivision Regulations, and adoption of or amendments to the City’s Plan of Conservation and Development. Notices will be sent at least seven days prior to the beginning of the public hearing. These notices are in addition to the legal notices published in the local newspaper.

The notices cover only those applications initiated by the Planning and Zoning Commission; notices will not be sent regarding applications submitted by applicants other than the commission themselves (e.g., individuals or corporations). If, for example, a property owner submits an application to change the zoning of his parcel from residential to business, the Planning and Zoning Commission will not send notices of the public hearing to those on the public notice registry. On the other hand, if the Planning and Zoning Commission itself proposes to change the zoning of a parcel from residential to business, the Planning and Zoning Commission will send a notice to all those on the public notice registry.

Applications to the Inland Wetlands and Conservation Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals are not covered by these notice requirements.
